Self Evaluation

REGARDING YOUR OWN PERFORMANCE
1. What were the three aspects of the assignments I've submitted that I am most proud of? My cell Lab, Write-Ups and Online Labs.
2. What two aspects of my submitted assignments do I believe could have used some improvement? Maybe my ethical Essay, and my Punnets Square Lab.
3. What do I believe my overall grade should be for this unit? I belive that i put alot of time and effort into this unit and should receive a A or B
4. How could I perform better in the next unit? I could do more research on my lab project to come up with more unique ideas.

REGARDING THE UNIT (adapted from Stephen Brookfield, University of St. Thomas "Critical Incident Questionnaire")
At what moment during this unit did you feel most engaged with the course? I really liked the unit on Cancer.

At what moment unit did you feel most distanced from the course? The first chapter was a little hard for me to stay focused just because it was alot of common sense, but in return made the review easier.

What action that anyone (teacher or student) took during this unit that find most affirming and helpful? I find it very helpful to be able to refer to other students work to see how well they are peforming and push myself to be just as good if not better.

What action that anyone (teacher or student) took during this unit did you find most puzzling or confusing? I did not find any student/teachers workto be confusing at all, everybodys work was layed out very well.

What about this unit surprised you the most? (This could be something about your own reactions to the course, something that someone did, or anything else that occurs to you.) I was most suprised to learn all about the different types of cancer and radiation just because my Grandpa just passed away from it and its easier to have a better understanding of it.

SELF/UNIT EVAL.
Thanks for the honest self-eval and feedback on the unit. I’m sorry to hear about your grandfather and I understand how that makes it all so much more relevant.

COMPENDIUM REVIEW 1: CELLS
This review is also very complete and well organized. I didn’t see any images to accompany it?? O.K., now I see them at the end—great! Again, integrating would be nice, but I understand…don’t want you just hassling with the blog.

COMPENDIUM REVIEW 2: GENETICS
This is an exemplary review. Very complete and I like all the images you found. I also find it easy to understand and well organized., I know it’s a hassle, but I wonder if you could integrate the images. Also, please be sure you cite where the images are from.

MICROSCOPE LAB.
Perfect. Defines all the pieces.. the images are perfect…some history..nice job.

DRAGON GENETICS
This lab is exemplary. You have captured the images almost perfectly—how come one dragon still has fire?—must have wanted one more gene change. The PUnnet’s square is perfect also. Nice work…the write-up also tell us all the pieces that it asks for and analyzes those images.

BUILD A CELL.
What a great-looking cell and incredibly clever use of food items…hope there were no kids around, or did your boy-friend eat everything! It’s a great basic cell with all the organelles and parts well –explained. The instructions also asked for a close-up of DNA replication, protein synthesis and mitosis, so those should have been added.

ETHICAL ISSUE ESSAY: GENETIC ENGINEERING
Nice job here. You explain these different types of cloning and do a nice job coming to some conclusions about what you think is valuable and not.

Please don’t forget to do your peer color group feedback on their ethical issues essays—you’ll probably find it interesting to see some other blogs also. And get started on Unit II if you haven’t already. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this feedback or your grades which can be seen on the YC Blackboard site.

Kristin, incredible job on this unit. All the pieces are here and very well done. Not much else to say—keep it up and I think you’ll find Unit Two to have a bit less new material.
